Repair Procedure
Step 1: Assess & Prepare Damaged Area
Remove all loose pieces of gypsum core from the damaged area. Clean out debris thoroughly to ensure a sound substrate for the repair compound.
Step 2: Fill Void with Joint Compound
Liberally fill the void completely with a stiff mix of setting-type joint compound. Use minimum water to achieve a workable, plastic consistency.
Step 3: Prepare Overlay Panel
Select an approved overlay panel and cut to size. Panel width should span H-stud to H-stud (≈26"). Height should exceed the damaged area by 4" minimum in each direction.
Step 4: Apply Adhesive & Laminate
Apply setting-type joint compound at full coverage along the back of the overlay panel using a ¼" notched trowel. Position and press firmly to laminate to the patched shaftliner.
Step 5: Fasten Overlay Panel
Secure the overlay with Type S screws into H-studs at 8" O.C., 1" from edges. Attach horizontal edges to shaftliner with Type G screws, 8" from each stud.
